Peta’s ‘FnL,’ Peta Theater Center, until Oct. 5

 

Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (Peta) “FnL,” a modern reworking of Franciso Baltazar’s “Florante at Laura,” presents an unusual encounter of Balagtas’ language and contemporary Filipino slang like “bekimon” and “jologs.”

 

Written by Rody Vera, Peta senior Anj Heruela and UP’s Maynard Manansala, the show’s initial run will be until Oct. 5 at the Peta Theater Center, under Ian Segarra’s direction. The full run will be on January 2015.

Red Turnip’s ‘Cock,’ Whitespace Makati, until Oct. 5

 

Red Turnip Theater’s production of Mike Bartlett’s “Cock,” which had a blockbuster run early this year, returns for one weekend only, Oct. 3-5, at Whitespace, Chino Roces Ave., Makati City. The original cast—Topper Fabregas, Niccolo Manahan, Jenny Jamora and Audie Gemora—returns under Rem Zamora’s direction.

POSTER - COCK 2Atlantis Productions’ ‘Shrek, The Musical,’ Meralco Theater, until Oct. 12

 

“Shrek, The Musical,” with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, runs at the Meralco Theater until Oct. 12, under Bobby Garcia’s direction for his Atlantis Productions.

 

Based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book “Shrek!” and the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film, the Atlantis production stars Rycharde Everley as Shrek, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez as Princess Fiona, Nyoy Volante as Donkey, Jett Pangan as Lord Farquaad, Nel Gomez as Pinocchio and Carla Guevara-Laforteza as Dragon.

Tanghalang Pilipino’s ‘Pahimakas sa Isang Ahente,’ Tanghalang Huseng Batute, until Oct. 19

 

ARTHUR Miller’s powerful modern drama about the American Dream, family and love in postwar America gets the Filipino treatment with Tanghalang Pilipino’s production of “Pahimakas sa Isang Ahente,” running until Oct. 19 at CCP’s Tanghalang Huseng Batute. The translation is by the late National Artist Rolando Tinio. Chris Millado directs.

 

Headlining the cast are Nanding Josef and Jonathan Tadioan alternating as Willy Loman, and Gina Pareño and Raquel Pareño as his wife Linda Loman. Yul Servo and Marco Viaña alternate as Biff, while Ricardo Magno plays Happy.

Dulaang UP’s ‘Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini,’ UP Guerrero Theater, until Oct. 19

 

FLOY Quintos (playwright), Dexter M. Santos (director) and Krina Cayabyab (composer) collaborate on a new musical production to celebrate Apolinario Mabini’s 150th birth anniversary.

 

“Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini” chronicles the last days of Mabini’s exile in Guam and explores the conditions which spurred him to return to his homeland.

 

The cast includes Roeder Camañag, Leo Rialp, Al Gatmaitan, Poppert Bernadas, Nazer Salcedo, Banaue Miclat and Jean Judith Javier, along with the Dulaang UP ensemble.

 

The show runs until Oct. 19 at the Guerrero Theater, 2/F, Palma Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman.
