Bestselling author Amy Tan coming to Manila

MANILA, Philippines – Fans of author Amy Tan (“The Joy Luck Club,” “The Kitchen God’s Wife,” “The Hundred Secret Senses”) won’t want to miss October 23 – 25 when the bestselling novelist drops by Manila. She will be one of the authors brought in by National Book Store for their first ever Philippine Literary Festival. Korean-American novelist Chang-Rae Lee (“Native Speaker,” “On Such A Full Sea,” “The Surrendered,”) will also join Amy Tan for the panel and book signing events.

Amy Tan rose to fame with her first published novel “The Joy Luck Club.” The book is centered around different Chinese-American mother-daughter relationships, and an equally successful film adaptation was released in 1993, which starred Ming Na, Rosalind Chao, Russell Wong, and Andrew McCarthy.

PAM-PASTOR_ValleyAmazement-While Tan is known for her works of fiction, the author has also published children’s books and non-fiction titles. Her most recent work of non-fiction is “Hard Listening,” an e-book chronicling her experience singing for the Rock Bottom Remainders, a band formed by famous writers like Stephen King, Mitch Albom, Dave Barry, etc., for charity.

All scheduled events for the Philippine Literary Festival will be held at Raffles Makati. Registration starts at 8 a.m. every day, and admission is free. Only books purchased during the Philippine Literary Festival will be eligible for signing by Amy Tan and Chang-Rae Lee (passes will be provided).
