QUEZON CITY, Philippines—Every year, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (Peta) brings together theater aspirants and stage performer hopefuls to take their first step into the theater world through the Workshop Weekends.

Students and professionals flock to the Peta Theater Center to secure their slot and begin their journey towards becoming a theater artist.

This coming October 11 until December 7, Peta presents another batch of Workshop Weekends.

Enrollees are promised once again a killer batch of talented and trained artist-teachers who will be sharing their knowledge on theater and performance.

Peta, known for its unforgettable and fresh productions like “Rak of Aegis”, “Care Divas”, “Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang”, “William” and “FnL” gives workshop enrollees the chance to gain knowledge from the people behind these productions.

Seasoned actor known for his portrayal as Tonee in “Care Divas”, Buddy Caramat, will be heading the Theater Arts course for beginners. Alongside him is William’s Sofia, writer of Virgin Labfest’s “Betang”, and also a graduate of the Workshop Weekends, Jmee Katanyag.

They will be covering a wide range of topics that will provide theater newbies a solid background of what theater is all about. From theater production to theater appreciation, enrollees will definitely acquire the knowledge and skill to kick off their theater dreams.

More advanced performers will get the chance to be mentored by Eric dela Cruz and Raffy Tejada.

Both of which are experienced theater artists, Eric dela Cruz having received his training from Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (Rada), and GMA Artist Center, and Raffy Tejada who has performed in several stage productions as Peta’s Walang Himala who also leads the DLSU Harlequin Theater Guild as its artistic director. Enrollees will be trained how to think on their feet through improvisation and also hone the skills they already have by applying them in different exercises that focus on the body, voice, and imagination.

Actress and voice coach Upeng Galang-Fernandez teams up with William and “FnL” musical director and composer Jeff Hernandez to teach the Creative Musical Theater enrollees on how to maximize their musical capabilities. The course will be filled with musical explorations that will cover the elements and forms of musical theater.

By the end of each course, enrollees will be able to show off the skills that they have acquired from the Peta Artist teachers through an original performance. The performance will be produced by the collective efforts of the class aided by their Peta instructors.

Interested applicants may simply just download the application form found at the Peta Theater website (www.petatheater.com) and walk in every Tuesday to Friday at the Peta Theater center to be interviewed and advised on the course that best fits their talents. For more information, they may also get in touch with Tina Sablayan at 09053696003 or 725 6244 or [email protected].
