Chic-lit work is witty, occasionally kinky | Lifestyle.INQ

t1010fran-briefbookreview_feat8_1You wouldn’t expect anything good to come out of a hook-up between a hot drunk girl and a hot drunk guy, especially if neither of them remembers details of their night together. But the morning-after setup becomes an amusing kickoff to “Boomerang,” the 325-page chic lit novel by Noelle August, pseudonym of independent book editor-ghostwriter Lorin Oberweger, and Veronica Rossi, author of New York Times best-selling young adult books.

The witty (and occasionally kinky) tale of romance and sexual tension in the workplace is given a refreshing spin, with chapters written in the alternating perspectives of young interns Mia Galliano and Ethan Vance.

They are strongly attracted to each other, but it turns out they are not only vying for the same job; their would-be employer also imposes a strict no-dating policy at work.

Sometimes Mia and Ethan’s insecurities can be annoying, and you’ll find yourself wondering how they couldn’t be a tad more self-assured, given their talents and physical attributes. Yet as the pair seesaws in desires and professional focus, their actions cause a boomerang of events that will keep readers turning the page. Fran Katigbak
