Annual wine event toasts the ‘angel’s share’

Since its inception at the turn of the century, the Grand Wine Experience has seen itself transform from a humble gathering of wine enthusiasts into a huge event attended by bon vibants, celebrities, dignitaries, top executives and members of high society. Founded by the four Joseph brothers of Philippine Wine Merchants, the Grand Wine Experience is widely regarded as the one of the most spectacular, lavish and anticipated wine events in Southeast Asia.

Each year, over 500 wines and spirits and an extensive buffet await the thousands of guests who indulge in their tipple of choice.

Now on its 14th year, the Grand Wine Experience promises to surpass its previous feats with its latest edition, “The Angel’s Share.”   There is a mystique that surrounds the aging of wine or any other eaux de vie in oak barrels. As these nascent libations mature over time, a small portion of the barrel’s contents surrenders itself to evaporation. As much as 2 percent is lost every year and even more in warmer countries due to this phenomenon. This not so insubstantial amount that dissipates into the ether is poetically referred to as “The Angel’s Share.”

In the past, The Grand Wine Experience has celebrated the artistry, science and culture of wine. This time, we raise our glasses to the magic.

This year’s event will be on Nov. 14 at The Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel Manila, Newport City.
