Following its much-talked-about opening in Manila, H&M has more exciting news: The Swedish retailer has partnered with New York-based fashion designer Alexander Wang, bringing his highly regarded creations to a bigger market.
Wang joins other top designers who have collaborated with H&M—Isabel Marant, Maison Martin Margiela, Karl Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson.
But Wang’s pieces are said to be quite unlike those of his predecessors, as most of them have been designed for the H&M tie-up alone. Which means Wang’s creations won’t be lower-priced versions of his older works, but actually original items for H&M.
Wang has 61 designs for men and women’s clothes, shoes and accessories. His theme is heavily inspired by athletic wear, as seen in his neoprene dresses, sweaters and leggings.
While his silhouettes range from extremely boxy and large to form-fitting and tight, all still promote an active lifestyle.
His palette is almost devoid of color—predominantly black, white or with shades of gray. What catches your attention in this H&M campaign is the brand “Wang” spattered in big, bold letters all over the collection—from beanies to bag straps to sports bras.
The collection is sporty, indeed, but instead of its purely rugged character, it looks like a seamless marriage of athleticism and high fashion. You can easily wear them to the gym; or just put on a pair of heels and be ready for a night out.
The Alexander Wang x H&M collection will be out in over 250 H&M stores worldwide starting Nov. 6.
