MANILA, Philippines―Puerto Rico’s candidate Valerie Hernandez was crowned Miss International 2014 Tuesday, beating delegates from 72 countries, including Philippines’ bet Maria Anna Bianca Guidotti.
Guidotti did not land a place in the pageant’s Top 10, crushing the country’s hopes to covet a back-to-back win.
Guidotti’s loss marks the first time since 2007 that the Philippines failed to secure a spot in the semifinal round of the said beauty tilt.
Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago from the Philippines passed the crown to Hernandez during the pageant night held at Tokyo, Japan.
The candidates who formed the top five are the following: Colombia’s Zuleika Suárez who placed 1st runner up; Thailand’s Punika Kulsoontornrut who landed 2nd runner up, United Kingdom’s Victoria Tooby who placed 3rd runner up, and Finland’s Milla Romppanen who won 4th runner up.
Other candidates who rounded up the Top 10 are Josefina José Herrero from Argentina, Deise Benício from Brazil, Elfin Rappa from Indonesia, Vianey Vázquez from Mexico, and Aileen Bernal from Panama.
Miss International 2014 is the 54th edition of the said pageant.
