35th Grand Marian Procession slated Dec. 7; Remedios fiesta to be marked in Pampanga

The procession will be preceded by the Hermana Mayor Mass at 2 p.m.  Cofradia chair  Imelda  Cojuangco and  president Aurora Eizmendi will head the board of trustees   and members  in the celebration. Mass will be officiated by Manaila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez, who has been appointed new bishop of  Infanta, Quezon.

Hermana mayores this year are Belen Hidalgo, Nene Leonor and Malu Unson.

Triduum of  Masses

Triduum of Masses in honor of the Immaculate Conception will be on Dec. 2-4,    11:30 a.m., at Manila Cathedral.

One hundred fifty children from Alay na Puso, a home for the sick and malnourished children run by the Sisters of Charity, and 350 children from  Baseco Elementary School will have their First Holy Communion Mass on Dec. 5, 9 a.m., at  San Agustin Church.

Remedios in San Fernando

The  Archdiocese of  of San Fernando, Pampanga also venerates the Virgen de los Remedios, especially in  Barangay Baliti, San Fenando.

Devotee Josie Miranda brought me to her church several times in Batili. The image of La Remedios is enthroned  in the main altar. There are miracles  that have been recorded through the Virgin ’s intercession.

The Remedios fiesta in Pampanga will be celebrated on Nov. 26 with Arcbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando celebrating the Fiesta Mass at 5;30 p.m. with Fr. Fernando David, parish priest, and the rest of the clergy.

Christmas concert in New York

Fr. Erno Diaz, parish priest of Guardian Angel Parish in Manhattan, New York, said the parish’s Christmas concert will be on Dec. 5th in Guardian Angel Parish.

“It will be my first concert in my new church,” he wrote. “Actually, the concert will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the “Handel’s Messiah Sing-Out” that I presented in December 1994 at the Folk Arts Theater sponsored by the San Lorenzo Ruiz International Foundation for the Arts and Humanities.”

“I have beautiful memories of the concert,” he added. He cited the participation of five music conservatories: Philippine Women’s University, University of Santo Tomas, St. Paul’s College of Manila, St. Scholastica’s College, and Adventist College of Pasay City, as well as the choir of Department of Foreign Affairs, who composed the 250-member chorus.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra provided the accompaniment, he wrote.

Some 6,500 people viewed the concert, led by Foreign Undersecretary Federico Macaranas.

Bishop Verzosa musical play

The Obispo Verzosa Musical will be presented at Batangas Coliseum on Nov. 28 and   Ynares Gym along Shaw Boulevard on Dec. 10. The last show is co-presented by the Diocese of Cubao.

Patricia Rivera writes, “We had a very successful presentation in Zamboanga on Oct. 21 for the Mindanao Sulu Pastoral Conference, attended by bishops, clergy and lay leaders of the Mindanao and  Sulu area. This was co-presented by the Archdiocese of Zamboanga thru the efforts of Archbishop Romulo de la Cruz and  Fr. Elmer Sumile.”
