Iya Consorio and Mimi Salibio present their new works in “Weird Machine” and “Waking Season” at Art Underground.
The shows reveal the thought-provoking practices of a new breed of contemporary artists, characterized by a highly nuanced aesthetic and tinged with references to Eastern spirituality and post-Enlightenment philosophy.
Salibio majored in Painting at the Far Eastern University. Her aesthetic leans toward the East—Japanese woodblock printing, for instance, and Hindi mythological charts.
Consorio, meanwhile, is a product of the Fine Arts program of the University of Santo Tomas. Using a decidedly monochrome palette, the works of Consorio are skewed to more surrealist figurations.
