From the runways to city streets, the plaid is a key trend of the season.

Whether it’s great gingham, herringbone or the classic tartan, plaid has been around for ages; and it looks like it’s here to stay.

While past plaid prints have followed more traditional and classic paths, Fall 2014 brings cool new ways to wear it. No longer confined to a schoolgirl’s skirt or a Scottish kilt, this season’s plaids and tartans melt into modern, half-abstract lines cast in red sequins as seen at Kenneth Cole; or take a more sophisticated route as Victoria Beckham did when she drew inspiration from the attitude of the modern woman.

There are also unapologetically bright plaids, blurred plaids with a quiet elegance from Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as grungy plaids from Vera Wang.

Manila’s fashion set rocks with plaid, inspired by Rihanna and Emma Watson earlier in the same puffball Alexander McQueen dress, Kate Bosworth’s tartan A-list update, and Jessica Alba’s cool and casual splash of tartan goodness.

GTW by SM offers an amazing mix of on-trend and hip plaid and tartan fashion. There are updates on the classic schoolgirl look, folk inspirations with blanket coats and cozy knits, and crisp, minimal silhouettes with checks in different sizes and in complimentary shades.

Photographed at Tagaytay Highlands; the collection is available exclusively at GTW by SM of The SM Store.
