Why we love Amy Poehler’s ‘Yes Please’ (and why you will, too) | Lifestyle.INQ

t1128tatin-yes_feat9_1If you’re a fan of “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) and “Parks and Recreation,” chances are you’ve already bought a copy of Amy Poehler’s funny memoir “Yes Please.” If you haven’t yet, make sure to pick up the hardcover version—the book’s pages are glossy, thick and aptly highlight Poehler’s photographic antics and hilarious sayings.

If you still need convincing, here are top moments/ lessons from “Yes Please.”

1) Seth Meyers has a cameo. Before Seth Meyers started hosting “Late Night” on NBC, he was our favorite news anchor together with Poehler on SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment. So, it was only fitting for Seth to be given half a chapter on Poehler’s book.

2) Amy and Tina

Poehler and Tina Fey’s “bramance” have been widely documented on the Internet (their hosting gig for the Golden Globes’ is comedy gold). Amy recounts their story and how their love for comedy bound them together. Amy calls Tina her “comedy wife.”

3) Lessons on divorce

We were thrilled when Poehler and actor/comedian Will Arnett got married because it seemed like a great and funny match.

But it was doubly heartbreaking when the couple divorced.

Amy shares lessons on how she got over it, and how she dealt with the fallout and the nosy questions that came her way. Her hypothetical books about divorce are the ones that would probably fly off the shelves if she decides to write about them.

4) Lists, please

Poehler’s book is peppered with lists such as advice on sex, why people cry in airplanes, etc. Clip these (don’t rip out pages; just take a photo and print it out) and post it on your office wall or refrigerator door.

5) Behind the scenes

Find out how Jon Hamm “comforted” her when she was having a meltdown before giving birth; Poehler’s thoughts about her “Parks and Recreation” castmates (with annotations from creator Mike Schur); and how she met (and humped) Justin Timberlake, and met (but did not hump) Sarah Palin.
