Farewell, Ms Sison

As a student in her class last year, I remember Ms Sison as a teacher who never got distressed.

Even as she was already ill back then, she  always showed concern for everyone. She was deeply loved—not just by her students, but even by her fellow teachers and the school’s personnel.

Everyone knew her for teaching Biology, Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology.

Teacher’s pet

I remember her especially during the first day of school. I was in her class, talking to my seatmate, when she told me to step out of the room.

I admit, I was really embarrassed. But then I knew she just cared for me.

Some say I was a teacher’s pet, or more specifically, Ms Sison’s pet. Every day, I would go down to the teachers’ faculty room to get her projector, then go back to our classroom at the fourth floor.

I actually enjoyed it because it gave me the chance to leave the classroom.

Throughout the school year, I realized that she was something extraordinary. Sometimes, she made random comments in class like, “’Wag ka masyadong pa-cool” or “Alam niyo ba masarap yung ganitong pagkain?”

Even the most ordinary activities seemed fun, if she gave us permission to do them. One time, during the last week of the school year, she had our class organize a dance battle. She made everything exciting and the whole class enjoyed the experience.

Sometimes, Ms Sison and I would have one-on-one talks about life and my family. She would also find ways to help me when I needed it. Financially or emotionally, she was always there for me.

Sadly, she wasn’t my homeroom adviser, but I can say that I was blessed to have her as my Biology teacher, and more importantly, as a second mother.

No farewell

Everyone couldn’t believe how and why one of the greatest teachers of San Beda Alabang departed without bidding farewell. To everyone who had the opportunity to have met Ms Sison, or have been touched by her ways, you are blessed.

To this day, her death hasn’t quite sunk in. There are no words to express how much I love Ms Sison.

Reading her Facebook wall, I noticed poignant posts from some of her former students. “You are one of the reasons I became a science teacher myself,” posted one. “You’re one of my favorite teachers in high school and the best homeroom adviser. You taught Anatomy class so well that I learned to love it,” said another.

May everyone remember her not just as a teacher, but as a mother and a Bedan treasure.

To the family of our dear Ms Sison, may you all find peace and consolation in this most difficult time.
We will always love you, Ms Patricia Sison.
