For more than two decades, rock star Rico Blanco has never stopped bringing excitement to the music scene. His work, both as former member of Rivermaya and as a solo artist, has been well-received by the public.
But the singer-songwriter is quick to downplay his success and achievements. “I’m just a fan of the arts—a fan who got the chance to make his own stuff and share it with others. I’m happy to share my energy and passion in music with all Filipino music-lovers,” he says.
His dynamic roster of albums with varying musical styles attests to the fact that he never seems to run out of inspiration. “As a singer, composer, or [even] as an actor, I’ve learned to draw inspiration from wherever I can, out of necessity. I have no choice. Either they find me or I find them,” confesses Rico.
What he likes most about the craft is “the opportunity to express my ideas. I always have so many things in my head. It’s a blessing to have the arts as an outlet.”
When not busy writing songs, Rico attends to his other passions: pets, travel, photography, interacting with fans, the Internet, sports. “Learning is a huge passion as well. I’m always hungry for knowledge,” he adds.
Backstage Pass finds out what makes him tick.
Open to possibilities
If I’m not in the music studio… I’m spending time with my loved ones or hanging out with friends.
My favorite topics for songs are… everyday things in which I see something special about them.
My music career… It just happened! One thing led to another…
I wouldn’t dream of living a day without… my loved ones.
My mantra… is to be open to possibilities! I choose to be happy!
I’m obsessed with collecting… timepieces. I collect Max XL in particular because of the style, design and craftsmanship.
I never leave the house without my… Max XL Phantom watch.
A perfect shower always includes… the basics—soap, water and shampoo.
My failsafe grooming products are… Pond’s Men Energy Charge Facial Wash, and the All-in-one Moisturizer.
When it comes to grooming… I’m low maintenance. I don’t spend too much time on a particular part.
