MANILA, Philippines—The 1989 movie “Back to the Future II” predicted that automatic-lacing sneakers would be the norm in 2015 and it looks like Nike would live up to the promise.
Speaking at #AgendaEmerge Thursday (Manila time), designer Tinker Hatfield said he and his team are working to produce Nike Air Mag, or the Marty McFly shoes, with the Power Lacing System, according to a report from Nice Kicks.
Hatfield, lead designer of the popular Air Jordans, said they still have “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015” to work on the Nike Mag.
Before the anticipated 2015 release, the Nike Mag was released in 2011 without the power laces. The shoes were sold on eBay with the proceeds going to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research.
Fox is the actor who played Marty McFly in the “Back to the Future” series.
No word, however, if there would also be a hoverboard.
