Rapper Nicki Minaj is famous for her colorful wigs, crazy clothes, and catchy hit songs. Nothing can be catchier, though, than her latest hit, “Super Bass,” which has got everyone singing along to it. From local celebs covering the song on their shows to regular people posting renditions on YouTube, here is a list of people who are certainly suffering from Last Song Syndrome, thanks to Nicki Minaj.
The country’s Pop Princess may be known for singing ballads, but recently, she’s been proving how versatile she is by singing fast songs and showcasing her dance floor skills. As someone who sings at least one song on “ASAP Rocks” every Sunday, it was impossible for Sarah not to sing “Super Bass.” And so she finally did, doing a good job rapping, dancing, and singing—live. It was a little goosebumps-inducing, however; Sarah should just stick to ballads.
Known for being chatty and for being a fast-talker, the Ultimate Multimedia Star did well rapping the verses of the song when she performed it—garbed in a sexy outfit—in “ASAP Rocks” last August. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to hear much of her singing the chorus part. It looks like the song is really one of her favorites because during her recent concert, Toni performed the song once again, this time with sister Alex.
Julie Anne San Jose
There is no doubt Julie Anne’s a great singer, based on her performances on Party Pilipinas. This is cemented by her cover of “Super Bass,” which is an awesome one because apart from being an acoustic performance, she also infuses her own style and flavor, making it her own. No wonder her video’s gotten over seven million views so far.
Moymoy Palaboy and Rhian Ramos
Known for their lip synch vids for the GMA 7 show “Bubble Gang,” the duo have also recently been getting stars to participate in their videos. For their cover of the Nicki Minaj song, they enlisted Kapuso star Rhian Ramos who doesn’t just look gorgeous in the vid, she kinda looks like the rapper herself, as well (well, at least the eyes and some of the facial expressions). The scene-stealing extras (Onyok, Pekto, and Gladys Guevarra) are also hilarious.
This short video of the Kapamilya actress proves a lot of things: that rapping is hard; that she doesn’t know the lyrics by heart; and that there is a reason why she is an actress. Smiling and giggling for a great chunk of the video, Empress got us giggling, too. We just hope that she was really, really not serious when she taped this video, which features a friend who was more than happy to sing along come chorus.
The teen star delighted fans when she rapped a few lines from the song during a radio interview. So when she performed the song with Nicki Minaj during a show in Los Angeles, California, the audience really went wild. Forget that she was wearing a dress that didn’t go good with the song, or that she was dancing in an awkward way. It was truly a different Taylor that everyone saw that day, thanks to Nicki’s song.
Justin Bieber’s girlfriend showcases her ghetto girl side by rapping the verses of the song. Unfortunately, the audio of the actual song is too loud so Selena’s voice can’t be heard totally. Taken in a dressing room, she turns her back on the camera after the verses, and sings the chorus to the other people in the room, coupled with some awkward dance moves, of course. After everyone applauds, she looks into the camera and says, “Play that back!” Cute.
Sophia Grace Brownlee
One of the best renditions of this song is from a little British girl named Sophia Grace Brownlee, who excellently sings AND raps the song in her pink princess outfit—complete with tiara, scepter used as mic, swag, and way cool hand gestures. Very good performance. And she finally met her idol Nicki Minaj and got the chance to perform with her on The Ellen Show. The only bad part—very bad, actually—is that the song is way too inappropriate for someone young like her.
