UST hosts night of romantic poetry and music

MANILA, Philippines—The Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), is holding a post-Valentine’s Day event, “Thomasians in Love: A Literary and Musical Evening,” on Feb. 20, 6 p.m., at the UST Civil Law Auditorium.

 

The event is in cooperation with the UST Publishing House, The Varsitarian, Faculty of Arts and Letters, Conservatory of Music, College of Fine Arts and Design, UST Graduate School, Faculty of Civil Law, and Department of Literature.

 

All the poems to be read are love poems written by Thomasian writers, and the readers will be either the poet themselves or UST administrative and academic officials. Expected to grace the occasion with his participation is National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera. Poems of the other Thomasian national artists, such as Nick Joaquin, Rolando S. Tinio and Cirilo F. Bautista, will also be featured.

 

Musical numbers will be performed by professors Nenen Espina, mezzo soprano, Jun Francis Jaranilla, bass, and Katrina Sunga, soprano, of the Conservatory of Music. Also singing is tenor Michael Anthony Vasco, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, and poet-balladeer Michael M. Coroza of the UST Graduate School.

 

“Thomasians in Love” will be directed by professor Tonton Africa of the Conservatory of Music. Production design will be by professor Rudy Olaso of the the College of Fine Arts and Design.
