Inquirer bags Gawad Tanglaw award

MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) is Gawad Tanglaw’s Best Newspaper (National Broadsheet) this year.

The academe-based group of media critics cited the Inquirer for “continuing to be a game changer in print media.”

Awards rites for this 13th edition of the annual event are set Thursday afternoon at the Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo Hall of the University of Perpetual Help in Las Piñas City.

Three other members of the Inquirer Group will receive individual awards.

PDI opinion writer Ambeth Ocampo is Best Newspaper Columnist for “Looking Back” which, Gawad Tanglaw said in its announcement, “gives the reader a wider perspective not only of history but of the Filipino story as a whole.”

The Gawad board, composed of Humanities professors in member colleges and universities, will give a special award, Best Entertainment Editor, to Emmie G. Velarde.

PDI’s entertainment section, the board said, sought “not only to entertain readers but also to inform them about the different aspects of the entertainment industry.”

Bandera’s Cristy Fermin is Best Entertainment Columnist (in Filipino).
