BenCab retrospective year kicks off

Prolific National Artist for Painting Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera marks his 50th anniversary in art with a retrospective year of exhibitions at major venues nationwide.

At 3 p.m. on Feb. 16, he turned over his metal sculpture “Variations of Sabel” to the Art Collection of the University of the Philippines, in celebration of both UP Diliman Month and National Arts Month. At a private dinner that followed that evening, hosted by Virgie Ramos, BenCab posed with a “kick-off cake” launching his banner year.
Soon after, to mark the sixth anniversary of the BenCab Museum on Asin Road in Baguio,  two exhibitions opened, featuring works by the artist and his colleagues.

“B&W: Paintings & Drawings” opened Feb. 21 and runs until April 5 at Gallery Indigo at the Museum. On exhibit are BenCab’s works along with those of Hermès Alegre, Virgilio Aviado, Elmer Borlongan, Louie Cordero, Kawayan de Guia, Jose Legaspi, Justin Nuyda, Azor Pagcoguin and Iggy Rodriguez

“Black & White,” an exhibit of film photographs, features Eliza Consul, Tommy Hafalla, Rudy Furuya, Ric Maniquis, Ompong Tan, Boy Yñiguez and BenCab at the Museum’s Print Gallery, until March 21.
