Philippine copyright group nominated in London Book Fair

Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society Inc. (Filcols), an organization that manages the reproduction rights of writers in the Philippine publishing industry, has been nominated in the London Book Fair’s (LBF) International Excellence Awards 2015.

 

Filcols has been shortlisted in the Publishers Association Copyright Protection Award category along with China’s copyright office and the Nigerian Publisher Association.

 

Last year, Oxford University Press of Pakistan won the award.

 

Filcols is the only finalist from the Philippines. The awarding ceremony will be held tomorrow, April 14, at the Olympia Conference Center in London during the fair’s gala night.

 

This year’s LBF International Excellence Awards has 15 categories, including International Literary Agent Award, International Literary Translation Initiative Award, and Publishing for Digital Minds Innovation Award.

 

Nominees come from different parts of the world such as the Dutch Foundation for Literature and South Africa’s Via Afrika and Croatia’s Fraktura. The United Kingdom has the most number of nominations with 11 while the United States of America and China have eight and six, respectively.

 

LBF will also announce the winners of the Association for Publishing Education Dissertation and Project Prize, and the LBF Chairman’s Award.

 

Peter Usborne, founder and managing director of Usborne Books, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

Founded in 2008, Filcols is a private organization that works with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines to promote and protect the intellectual property rights of writers and publishers.

 

Filcols executive director Alvin Buenaventura and Book Development Association of the Philippines president Lirio Sandoval will attend the awarding ceremonies in London.
