Boho, hippie, flared denims–the look is ’70s cool this summer | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

There are two major fashion trends for summer: anything 1970s and everything denim.

The high-fashion runway trends have spilled over to the high street. At Zara, the on-trend Spanish label, here are key finds:

Flared jeans. This classic from the 1970s never goes away, but it’s once more the go-to jean shape. It pairs perfectly with the season’s shoe styles: chunky platforms and clogs, or “mandals” (mannish sandals). The latter, however, works only for taller girls, or if the jeans are tailor-cuffed to the right length. With a denim pair, you’re hitting two trends in one.

All whites. Nothing says romantic than full-on lacy whites with delicate cutouts and eyelets that reveal just hints of skin here and there.

Flowy tops and dresses. Go full-on hippie chic with billowy dresses, maxi or mini, with vintage and ethnic prints reminiscent of Woodstock. The flowy tops go well with flared pants and denim cut-offs. Your style peg: those hot young things at Coachella (read: Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, even Alexa Chung).

Denim, denim, denim. Remember when head-to-toe denim was a fashion faux pas? This season, you can go to town with the indigos, in varied fabrications.

Fringe accessories. Nothing says bohemian chic better than suede and fringe accents. Zara has affordable leather fringe bags that will see you through many years of your actual or virtual Coachellas.

Gladiator sandals. If you’re not into treacherous platform heels, which are also hot right now, go for lace-up gladiator sandals. They’re perfect to highlight your pins with those short flowy dresses or cut-off denim shorts.

Zara has branches at Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 5, SM Mall of Asia, Glorietta, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, SM Fashion Hall, TriNoma, and is exclusively distributed by International Specialty Clothing Inc., a member of SSI Group Inc.
