The Grand Central Market in Los Angeles shelters its newest resident Sari Sari Store, brainchild of James Beard-nominated pastry chef Margarita Manze. Diverting from her forte this time, Manze offers savory fare rooted from, of course, her Filipino heritage, and opens a casual food stall after creating an empire of restaurants with her business partner and husband.
Sari Sari Store opened last July 6. The menu mainly consists of savory rice bowls or our classic silog. There’s adobo and sisig fried rice, arroz caldo, lechon manok, and Sari Sari breakfast (two eggs any style, longganisa, garlic fried rice, pan de sal, coconut jam, and butter).
No food place that focuses on Filipino cuisine is complete without halo halo. Aside from the classic one, Sari Sari also serves a chocolate variation. They also have buko pie.
