With information readily available at the touch of a button, most people are guilty of consulting the internet before actually visiting a doctor for diagnosis.

This is also true for mothers who get worried even over the first symptom of illness or the slightest change in their kid’s behavior. Moms would scour parenting and baby sites for hours for something that would help them allay their fears, but they may stumble upon some unreliable information.

That is one dilemma Kimberly-Clark Philippines and Perinatal Association of the Philippines hope to end with the launching of a new online consultation tool for maternal and baby care called the “Expert Panel.”

“Most moms want to get as much information as possible, what they can do to be the best mom. But what we find in the internet is not always credible,” said Kimberly-Clark PH general manager Ashwini Nagpal Tuesday in official launch of the online hub at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

“We want to partner with the best doctors who know babies the most [to provide us information].”

The Expert Panel, which will be available on Huggies Philippines’ website, will be a portal for general questions about parenting and babies with answers coming straight from PAP, a group composed of obstetricians, pediatricians and midwives.

“We hope mom will now feel assured knowing that the online information they receive are directly from the experts,” said PAP president Dra. Ma. Theresa Hilario-Jimenez.

While the partnership between PAP and Kimberly-Clark PH aims to make reliable information within reach, it is not “meant to replace actual health care.”

Jimenez said that the doctors answering online queries will also advise users to go see an actual doctor for emergency concerns.

The “Expert Panel” tab on Huggies.com.ph will run 24/7 with previously answered questions and general information available for reference. For individual concerns, a mail notification will be sent to the user once their question has been answer with a lead time of 5-7 days.
