Take five for Alex and Hans Van Hagen

For the fifth time, dahlings, siblings Alex and Han Van Hagen held “Van Hagen and Van Hagen: Brothers in Art 5,” a joint exhibit featuring Alex’s photographs and Han’s copper etchings at the grand ballroom of Manila Peninsula.

Alex, a top society photographer, has chosen beautiful landscapes, still life, barks of trees, and cityscapes for this exhibit. The photos were taken in the Philippines and in China.

Hans, whose works are known around Europe, presented some of his highly prized zinc and copper etchings of birds, sheep, cows and bulls.

Exquisitely detailed and almost photographic, his works included landscape and architecture of old castles in the Netherlands, where the Van Hagens hail from.

The exhibit’s launch gathered our town’s art collectors, as well as prominent society, corporate, diplomatic, fashion and lifestyle personalities.

Doing the ribbon-snipping were Dutch Ambassador to the Philippines Marion Derckx, Peninsula Manila GM Sonja Vodusek-Vecchio, National Artist for Visual Arts Arturo Luz, Fila Philippines’ Cris Albert, Citi Philippines CEO Batara Sianturi, and tycoon Washington SyCip.

While the Van Hagens’ four previous joint exhibits were all successful, this fifth edition was a complete sellout—with some collectors buying an item faster than you could bat an eyelash, palangga.

Cheers, Alex and Hans!

“Van Hagen and Van Hagen: Brothers in Art 5” was presented by Fila Philippines and Peninsula Manila, supported by Belo, Bench, Century Properties and Philippine Tatler. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Real Life Foundation, Alex’s favorite charity organization.

‘Next is now’

“Samsung Galaxy S Carpet: Art and Fashion” showcased the marriage of form and function of the latest Samsung smartphone models, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, held recently at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall.

The presentation was sleek, the “S”-shaped runway complementing the products’ smooth, flowing design.

Event host Issa Litton formally welcomed guests and Samsung Electronics Philippines officers, including vice president and managing director Harry Lee; business unit head for IT and mobile communications Digs Dimagiba; business manager for IT and mobile communications Minsu Chu; product marketing head for IT and mobile communications Rhinn Piczon; and head of corporate marketing Chad Sotelo.

For the event, Samsung partnered with world-renowned Filipino glass sculptor Ramon Orlina for a trés exclusive six-piece collection of his premier glass art pieces—one of which, dubbed “Cutting Edge,” featured the Galaxy S6 edge within the sculpture.

Meanwhile, Marilou Co of Marilou’s Jewellery created a dazzling, luxurious phone case for the Galaxy S6, with 60 diamonds encrusted on pure 18k yellow and white gold.

The show also introduced the new Samsung brand ambassadors, Solenn Heussaff and Georgina Wilson. The two beauties told Litton what they loved most about the S6 and S6 edge.

Solenn said she’s been a believer in the brand’s innovative smartphone features, which are relevant to her daily life. Georgina, for her part, related her “conversion” story, how fulfilled and liberated she felt after deciding to use Samsung.

Spotted at the gathering were Jim Paredes, Franco Laurel, Rhett Eala, Henri Calayag, Robbie Becroft, LA Aguinaldo, Katarina Rodriguez, Jerome Ponce, Lourd Ramos and Nix Alanon, among others.

With the new design aesthetics and technological innovations of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6, Samsung has outdone itself again, setting standards in smartphones even higher. Indeed, “next is now.”
