While orange looks like a shade best left to makeup experts, the people behind Etude House think otherwise. During a special workshop held in Seoul by makeup artist Jeon Min Ae and product development manager Yoon Se Il, we were introduced to the brand’s interpretation of orange.
Aptly named Miss Tangerine, the collection is a sweet blend that complements yellow Asian undertones, while its smooth, creamy formulas make the shades foolproof and approachable to those who want to don this trendy and flattering color, whether you’re fair, morena, or in between.
Face:
Prep skin by applying a primer. This will make your makeup go on better and last longer.
Even out red spots and uneven patches by patting on BB cream. Short for blemish balm, these medicated tinted moisturizers are formulated to be sheer and lightweight, ideal for our humid climate.
Eyes:
For a natural look, you can blend pink as a wash on the eyelid and use the more orange shade as a contour shade—it’ll look more natural, as against using brown to define your crease. Try using the orange shimmer as an entire wash by applying it on your entire lid.
Follow up with a thin, finely drawn line across your lashline, and apply two to three coats of mascara on curled lashes—the lush lashes will stand out against your tangerine lids.
Cheeks:
Lightly dust on the top of cheekbones and finish off with a shimmery gold highlighter on top of the blush—it will give flushed cheeks depth and definition.
Looking for the perfect shade of orange lipstick to flatter you? Try this handy trick while at the makeup counter: Apply one shade to the left side of your mouth, and another on the opposite. Use a tissue or your hand to cover the other half of your face to see how the lip color looks against your skin. A flattering lip color will have an instant brightening effect on your complexion.
Tips for wearing orange:
Don’t go overboard! Focus on one part of your face that you’d like to highlight, whether it’s the eyes, cheeks, or lips.
