Women’s mag, other media agencies given ‘gender-equality’ awards

The gender Equality Committee for Media named the first recipients of the GADtimpala for Media Award at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Theater in Pasay City:

DZRH’s “Radyo Balintataw” hosted by Cecile Guidote Alvarez—Most Gender-Fair Radio Program; GMA’s “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”—Most Gender-Fair TV Program; PJI’s “Women’s Journal”—Most Gender-Fair Print Media; “Barber’s Tales” directed by Jun Lana—Most Gender-Fair Film.

Also given special citation cited were: PTV4’s “The Veronica Chronicles” and “Personage with Carla Lizardo,” and Habi Collective’s docufilm “Walang Rape sa Bontok.”

The Gender Equality Committee for Media, created under Republic Act 9710s or the Magna Carta of Women (MCW), is composed of representatives from the Presidential Commmunications Office, Philippine Commission on Women, National Telecommunications Commission, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, Film Academy of the Philippines, Optical Media Board, National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, and women’s media civil society organizations.

The awards night was hosted by Issa Litton, Joey Ayala and Aretha Angcao.

Entertainment numbers were given by Sindaw Dancers, NCCA Rondalla and Halili-Cruz Ballet Company.

Sec. Sonny B. Coloma, chair of the committee, said the GADtimpala Awards sought to commend “our media partners for airing and propagating gender fairness in all media of mass communication.”

Meanwhile, the PCW and the GSIS also awarded the winners of the 2015 Women’s Month Photo Contest in the same Awarding Ceremonies.

The following bested other 479 entries nationwide as they best captured the essential representation and role being played by Filipino women in leadership, power and decision making: “The Women in Uniform” by Romeo J. Narido; “Girl Child Teaching” by Klienne M. Eco; “Rise to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls” by Ruth M. Gadia; “Buhay Bukid” by Shaun Matthew A. Vicencio; “Iron Lady” by Danilo T. Esteves; “Women in Power(lines)” by Romado Fermin Javillonar; “Idol ko si Titser” by Danilo O. Victoriano, Jr.; “Women Empowerment in the Uniformed Service” by Gilbert A. Alviola; “Woman. Priest. Peace Advocate. Wife. Mother” by Jerome Velasco Rosales; “Agta Woman” by Katrina Angela B. Rivera; “Mother, the Family Leader” by Ramon I. Castillo; and “Woman Geologist” by Brigido Alcayde.
