Filfest of Alabang features Ateneo choral group

Filfest Cultural Foundation will present the Ateneo Chamber Singers at the Insular Life Theater on June 20 at 8 p.m.

The Ateneo Chamber Singers (ACS) was formed by graduating members of the Ateneo College Glee Club in 2001. Since being launched in 2002, ACS has earned national and international renown for its commitment to stylistically informed and compelling renditions of sacred choral music.

ACS is composed of alumni and friends of the Ateneo. Many of the choristers are professionals in various fields. ACS is led by conductor Jonathan Velasco.

Last July, the choir emerged champion of the Musica Sacra Acapella Category at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, besting 36 choirs from all over the world. In the same competition, ACS bagged a second gold medal for the Mixed Chamber Choirs Category.

In the same month, ACS was awarded First Prize at the Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain.

In 2006, ACS got first prize at the Tolosa International Competition in Spain.

In Asia, ACS is the third member of a choral triumvrate celebrated in the Three Choral Festival. With the SYC Ensemble Singers (Singapore) and GAIA Philharmonic Choir (Japan), ACS has participated and hosted concerts in this biennial celebration.
