Celebrity makeup artist Bambbi Fuentes was given the Outstanding Salon Artist of the Philippines award by Hair Asia at its 25th national open championship for hairstyling and makeup held recently at the World Trade Center in Pasay.
Fuentes says the job of a makeup artist is not to change but to enhance or accentuate a womanâs natural features, specially the eyes.
He adds that the main purpose of makeup is to build confidence: âIf you feel good about your appearance, it will show in how you carry yourself.â
This yearâs makeup trend, he notes, is about glittery, bright colors, extreme winged looks, smokey eyeshadow, and vivid red lipstick. âThe dewy Korean skin is a hit for 2015, specially since many Filipino women are now more conscious about their skin. So they have to use moisturizers such as BB cream or CC cream.â
Inquirer Lifestyle asks Fuentes to talk about five of his most famous clients and how he enhances their features:
Marian Rivera
âShe has one of the most flawless skins among actresses I have worked with. I use spotless daily moisturizer and a good foundation on her face. She already has nice cheekbones, but if a particular scene she is shooting requires it, I put on more contour and color plus shimmer. I put brown, peach and black liner and mascara to open up her eyes. Marian has very natural, bushy eyebrows, so I just fill in a few gaps with eyebrow powder.â
Dawn Zulueta
âShe has a naturally beautiful face, so most of the time I just enhance it with light makeup. But I need to contour, particularly if there are heavy lights on the set of a TV shoot. She also has a strong jawline which adds a regal touch to her neck.â
Gelli de Belen
âGelli is more experimental when it comes to makeup. She likes the Korean dewy style, a little contour blush with shimmer and highlighter. For her eyes, I put pale or very light shade with winged liner and arched eyebrow. For her lips, itâs nude red or plum lipstick. It really depends on her mood or the clothes that she will be wearing.â
Kris Aquino
âShe also has a nice fair complexion. I use a good foundation and concealer for her face. Her eyes are bright and interesting; to highlight them I play around with the simplest browns to pinks to grays and blacks. I make her eyebrows heavier, even if they are naturally arched. Kris has natural full lips so any shade is okay, though she likes pink lipstick.â
Julie Anne San Jose
âSheâs young so her face looks fresh even without makeup. But for her eyes I play around with brown, pink, green or gray eyeshadow. She needs contouring during photo shoots.â
