‘Casino Español’s Got Talent’ slated July 30

It was an elegant afternoon wedding for Joven Francis Neri and Crystal Faith Superal at the Sacred Heart Parish. She is the daughter of Wendy and Grace (nèe Gimeno) Superal; he is the son of Julius and Nelia (nèe Garcia) Neri.

Principal sponsors were Dale Garcia and Zenda Lat, Mario Aguilos and Joan Tayao, Eric Deen and Greely Oposa, Rene and Cynthia Joven, William Chiongbian II and Elma Muangkroot, Renato Sarmiento and Victoria Moraza.

Lyra Yoe was Crystal’s maid of honor while Bayani Garcia was his cousin’s best man. Bridesmaids Eagle Superal, Princess Mary Superal and Isabel Neri were complemented by groomsmen Lloyd Co, Marvin Sanchez and Kiyofumi Takahashi. Little attendants were flower girl Alexandra Marie Garcia and Jesus Antonio Garica bearing the rings, coins and the Bible.

Attending the bridal couple during the nuptial Mass were the secondary sponsors: Jonathan Bomete and Nelia Monet, for the candle; Justin and Candice Neri, the veil; Julius Neri Jr. and Marylou Neri, the cord.

The reception that followed was scheduled for sundown at the scenic Chateau de Busay.

Birthday musicale

Dr. Warfe Engracia’s birthday fell on a Sunday but he decided to celebrate it on the following Tuesday with a dinner musicale at the Bar Mixto of Casino Español de Cebu.

“They have a new keyboard that sounds like a grand piano,” said Warfe, and his best friend Eddie Dakay readily agreed to accompany his songs, with some tinkling of his own à la Liberace.

Here for the occasion were Warfe’s children Athena, Christopher and Dr. Mariquit with husband Elmer Pascual and their children Shawn, Brendon and Rossehana.

Special guest that evening was Chinggay de Veyra Utzurrum whose birthday it was. She sat with dear friends Floy Ynclino, Julius and Nelia Neri, Cookie Newman and Fernando Rama.

Guests included former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia with his wife Ninette, Amay Ong Vaño, Percy Llaban, Gabriel Leyson and Tina Jordana.

There was a program well-coordinated by Renato and Joy Kintanar. Sam Costanilla and Ramon Ceniza were hosts. It started with Warfe singing “Our Father” by way of an invocation, and then followed “Some Enchanted Evening.”

It was, specially with Warfe regaling his well wishers with more: “All the Things You Are,” and “Granada” sung in Spanish and dedicated to Chinggay.

While Warfe took a breather, Eddie Dakay remained at the keyboard to render the Argentinian tango “Por Una Cabeza,” revived in the film “Scent of a Woman.”

Reggie Bernaldez gave a guitar rendition and so did Anthony Solomon who garnered great applause with “Asturias” by Albeniz, and the Cebuano immortal “Usahay.”

To complete the program on a classical note, Renato Kintanar (cello) and his wife Joy (piano) brought the house down with Elgar’s “Salut d’Amour.”

‘Cebuanos Got Talent’

This could well have been a preview of what’s coming up on July 30 at the ballroom of Casino Español de Cebu. Director for cultural activities Gabby Leyson has sent out a circular about the 4th edition of “Casino’s Got Talent.”

Theme is “Revive the Legend,” and there’s a long list of possibilities, among them Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Paul Anka, Nat King Cole, Michael Jackson, ABBA, Whitney Houston, what-have-you.

Performers may sing, dance, do comedy, anything that adheres to the theme.

There’s no age limit, and it is not a contest; just a pure show of talents and guts. Deadline to register is July 15.

Those who’d like to attend are urged to make those reservations for the dinner buffet early. Previous “Talent” shows have been sold out days before the prescribed date.
