FOR SOME people, childhood dreams vanish the moment they step into the real world. But up-and-coming star Gabbi Garcia never considered her childhood dream a long shot; she actually made sure that it came true, sans a genie or a fairy godmother.
Today, 16-year-old Gabbi is carving out her name in show business, landing one project after another, from TV shows to ad campaigns. In the sea of fresh faces in the industry, her soft feminine features, matched with her sweet personality, make her stand out. “I believe I am relatable and that I have a very Pinoy look,” she says.
“I am also a folk dancer. I can carry five banga on top of my head while dancing!” she adds.
Despite being in show biz, Gabbi wants to have time for education. She plans to enroll in aviation school to become a licensed pilot while honing her skills and pursuing a passion for acting. “I hope that, someday, I will be like Marian Rivera or Carla
Abellana,” she notes.
Being in the company of big names in the industry can either intimidate or inspire a newbie, and Gabbi says things are very encouraging: “Aside from Marian Rivera and Carla Abellana, I have high respect for the Eigenmanns. I had the opportunity to work with Sid Lucero and Gabby Eigenmann and I must say that they’re professional, talented and humble.”
Taking cues
So, instead of merely observing, Gabbi takes cues and advice from veterans for guidance. So far, she has been doing very well, exploring her talent and finding her own niche. “Whenever I have tapings or acting projects, I make sure that I’m always ready by knowing my script and by putting myself in the world of my character,” she points out.
After a tiring day, getting a good massage and singing while playing guitar are Gabbi’s stress relievers.
As for her go-to outfit: “I like casual, laidback clothes but there are also times when I want to feel girly and feminine, so I wear a dress.”
Whenever she can, Gabbi spends her free time with family and friends who give her a semblance of life outside show biz. “They remind me to always be humble no matter what I achieve,” she says. “Being around them is always a good thing, because I am reminded of all the good values my parents taught me.”
There is still a long road ahead for Gabbi, and she still has dreams. Right now, becoming an action star and a beauty queen are at the top of her bucket list. She also looks forward to working with Vilma Santos in the future.
With her talent and a good head on her shoulders, Gabbi could make all her dreams come true—the same way she turned her childhood fantasies into a
reality.
Her insights thus far: “Know your craft well, love what you’re doing, be grounded all the time. Aim high and never stop until you reach your dreams.” With this kind of mind-set, the future looks bright for this talented young lady.
