BAYANIHAN, the national folk-dance company of the Philippines, returned recently from a successful performance at the Vigado Concert Hall, a restored 16th-century hall in Budapest, Hungary.
It was the featured guest performer during the 117th celebration of Philippine Independence, hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, led by Ambassador Eleanor Jaucian.
Called the Jewel on the Danube, the fairy-tale palace holds high-level cultural events.
The dance company also participated in the Danube Carnival and was awarded the Best Group in music; the Silver Bridge in dance; and the People’s Choice, which was the result of the count of ballots after each country’s performance.
Bayanihan prepares for its season production at the Cultural Center of the Philippines next month.
On Aug. 27, the show will feature the Singapore Dance Theatre and the Bayanihan in “Melange @ 50.” The show, in collaboration with the Embassy of Singapore, will be a celebration of the Republic of Singapore’s 50 years of independence and Bayanihan’s 50th season.
“Bayanihan at Its Best,” featuring Bayanihan’s exquisite production numbers, will run on Aug. 28, 8 p.m.; and on Aug. 29, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
