Every year, my badminton group goes up to Baguio to watch the Wimbledon Finals.
But this year, it didn’t push through, so some of us decided to do something together on the following weekend.
We decided to go to Coral View Beach resort in Morong, Bataan.
The place has four pools and facilities for volleyball, obstacle courses, basketball and many sports.
Many companies hold their outings and bonding sessions here.
During trips like this, I plan my itinerary and where to dine. Angeles is where I usually do many of my food trips, but this time, I thought of dining in another place.
San Fernando was my next choice, but my Waze suggested I take another route. I obeyed and off I went.
Then I remembered the ribs place at Subic where I had eaten before. That place made an impact the last time I was there. I was excited. Most places with American menus offer ribs and I love them, but I guess my expectations have gone up having experienced authentic US Southern ribs before.
A few years back, I was invited to Memphis, Tennessee, to promote our cuisine in one of the hotels there. It was a fun experience because with the invitation came many opportunities to dine in the best of Memphis and see Elvis’ Graceland.
As soon as I landed, I was picked up at the airport and we proceeded to the Great Barbecue cooking competitions where there were over a hundred entries of all sorts of grills and smokers.
It was such an awesome sight to see.
Being guests, we were made to try the top three ribs, both with the wet and dry rub. Oh my gosh. I never tried the ribs at this level. I loved them so much. I also fell in love with Gus’ Fried Chicken in the city. Best fried chicken i ever tasted.
Ribs and cowgirls
Back to my drive, I punched Ribs on Waze in Subic and Texas Ribs came out and I was directed straight to their parking lot. The servers were dressed as cowgirls. Service was very friendly and the menu was similar to a real barbecue place.
There were two kinds of ribs. I got the 1/3 ribs with a siding of coleslaw and baked beans. There were three types of homemade barbecue sauces laid on the table.
The ribs were firm but fell off the bone easily. They were the closest in the Philippines to the ones I had tried in Memphis. They were delicious.
I also ordered two chicken tacos which were also fantastic. I was already looking forward to my drive back alone. At Coral View, we hung out and had a simple but great time. We had a delicious breakfast of tapa, tinapa, scrambled eggs, sibuyas at kamatis and sinangag. It was enough to last me up to lunch in Subic.
My plan was to pass by the Duty Free and take my time walking and just looking at all the interesting goodies plus have lunch at my new discovery.
I went back to Texas Ribs and had barbecue ribs, barbecue chicken, coleslaw and spicy barbecue sauce. Sarap talaga! This will most definitely be a good enough reason to travel to Subic again.
Now I look forward to going to Coral View and Subic. Check both out!
