The deal on Luis Manzano

Stepping out of the shadow of his celebrity parents, Luis “Lucky” Manzano has made a name for himself, starting from being a MYX VJ, he has gone on to become a  comedian, bankable endorser,  smart entrepreneur  and respected TV host. He might soon be adding politician to his role roster. For now, the only child of Edu Manzano and incumbent Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos is focusing on his duties as the host of the fifth season of “Deal or No Deal” (weekdays, 5 p.m., ABS-CBN).

This may seem like a lucky streak already, but to Manzano, who took up Hotel and Restaurant Institution Management, had really wanted to become a physician.

“This may seem like a big punchline, but I was really hoping to be a doctor,” he said. “I’ve always had a fascination for science and medicine.”

Of course, luck aside, there’s no denying he’s the sum of the best parts of his mom and dad. So Backstage Pass has a chat with him to see the grooming habits that bring about good fortune.

Scoop

The last completely awesome thing I did was… Bungee jump off the Macau Tower. Life is too short not to be lived without adrenaline.

Looking back at the path I’ve taken, I have to say that… I still have so much to learn, so much improvement needed, but I’m not going anywhere.

The stage of my relationship with Angel Locsin at this time is…  Utter and sheer contentment.

“Deal or No Deal” is more exciting this season because… We have our lucky stars holding the briefcases. It’s watching different personalities from different facets in the industry as one family.

My thoughts on entering politics in the future… is something I have to decide on soon. I believe that it’s not as easy as entertaining people on TV. People will be trusting you with their livelihood, education, safety and so much more. If I do enter politics, it has to be a commitment and not a sideline.

The most solid professional advice I’ve ever received… Sounds like your typical cliché, but it would have to be, “Love what you do.” This line of work is definitely far from easy. What people see are the finished products or maybe just the glitz and glamour of being in this industry. If you can’t fully appreciate what you do, the industry will eat you up and spit you out in no time.

Scent of success

You can tell a lot about a man by… How his suit fits. For me, being stylish is always about the details, even if you are wearing something basic.

I have a regular compulsion to buy… Shoes. I even forget at times that I already have certain pairs.

My weekly workout involves… MMA and crossfit.

My grooming basics… Head and Shoulders for my shampoo, and Sensodyne for my toothpaste.

My go-to scents… Clinique Happy and Chanel Allure for daily scents and Bulgari Blue for evening functions. Chanel Allure works for both.

My grooming guilty pleasure is… None in particular. To be perfectly honest, I’m still trying to comprehend how both male or females can stand facials. They are painful.

A product I’ve been loyal to for ages is… Clinique Happy.

Alternatives

Amp your approach to grooming.

Treatments and face masks should be regular parts of your skincare routine,  especially if you’re looking to remove the weekly build-up of dirt, oil and makeup.  But if, like Luis, you are averse to having facials done in beauty institutions or salons, Backstage Pass recommends a cleansing treatment you can do at home.

Glamglow Powermud is a mud-to-oil, gentle, deep cleansing treatment that removes the weekly build-up of dirt, oil and makeup. It contains no parabens, sulfates or phthalates.  Just apply, wait several minutes, and then rinse. Glamglow powermud (Php3,300) is available in the cosmetics department of SM Makati, North Edsa, SM Aura, MOA and Megamall.

Luis Manzano is pretty hilarious off-hours, too. Just check out his Instragram feed for some serious laughs. @luckymanzano
