CONCERT pianist Leonor Kilayko has launched a series of musical performances in South Syquia Apartments on M. H del Pilar Street, Malate, Manila.
Performing on June were baritone Randy Gilongo and pianist Najib Ismail. Gilongo sang the complete song cycle (Lieder Ba) of Romantic composer Robert Schumann, “The Dichterliebe,” as well as songs of Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven.
He was accompanied on the piano by Ismail, who was a student of Kilayko at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.
Present at the concert were Richard Sy Facunda, Joyce Tan of Steinway Boutique, and soprano Irma Potenciano.
For the initial performance in the series last February, Kilayko played two sonatas by Scarlatti; Toccata in E Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach; Robert Schumman’s “Arabesque,”; Scriabin’s Preludes; and Frederic Chopin’s well-loved Ballade in G Minor.
Among those present were Rita Silos Gatuslao; Roger Barbadillo, George Reynoso of Diamond Hotel; Croatian national Father Micky Martin of the Columban order; Calixto and Norma Chikiamco; Mario de Rivera; and Ruby Parial, formerly of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Ms Müeller of Berlin; Satur Ocampo; Bobbie Malay; Richard Sy Facunda; and Sony K. Ng.
To perform this August are pianists Luci Magalit, also a former student of Kilayko; and Gema Gonzales, a student of Augusto Espino. Both Magalit and Gonzales are graduates of the UP College of Music.
To end the series will be a performance of Kilayko in September, she will play piano works of Romantic composers Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin.
