The hottest fall shoe trends are a mix of the classics and a few whimsical surprises. But you need not go broke to update your shoe wardrobe this season—that’s what high-street brands are for, genius!

So let’s review what the designers sent out on the runways.

Saint Laurent, Emilio Pucci and Altuzarra had variations of the season-favorite ankle booties, as well as their knee- and thigh-high cousins—lace-up and bondage-inspired.

All-season mainstays like pumps and their many iterations—with ankle straps, peep toe, slingbacks, with cutouts—as well as strappy sandals also made their appearance at Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani. Chunky heels are also big for fall, so consider those.

The classic Chelsea boot, well-loved for its chic and comfy silhouette (flat or low-heeled, with side elastics), was seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.

The androgynous footwear is also strong for fall, with the likes of Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Balenciaga and DKNY sending out brogues and oxfords paired with dresses. Giorgio Armani and Max Mara also shod their models in loafers.

Look to slip-on sneakers as well, just like those seen at Céline, as well as strappy flat sandals. Gucci, Tibi and Vionnet had them covered in fur, but let’s not get carried away.

To kick off your shoe hunt, we picked out trendy fall styles from affordable brand Charles & Keith, side-by-side their runway inspirations.
