Dr. Kaycee Reyes, a new major player in the dermatological scene in Manila because of her Luminisce Holistic Skin Innovations, the skin and laser clinic, likens the work of a skin specialist like her to that of important fashion designers like the late Alexander McQueen, whose highly unique designs make women feel empowered.
“I love Alexander McQueen,” said Dr. Reyes. “I feel like we share the goal in making clients feel strong, empowered, and confident.”
McQueen’s designs have been described as inventive, unique yet elegant. McQueen (1969-2010) was a very important designer, his creations showing an edgy aesthetic and impeccable tailoring.
Like McQueen’s work, Luminisce is a departure from the slew of beauty centers and skin clinics, as it offers a holistic approach to skin healing, a combination of alternative and modern medicine, and individualized skin analyses.
Reyes’ clients have included celebrities such as Patty Laurel, Maggie Wilson and Sofia Andres; models like Wil Dasovich; and professionals such as lawyer Karen Jimeno and broadcast journalist Ces Drilon.
She likened her clinic to McQueen’s work.
“We go against the grain in terms of implementing a combination of alternative and evidence-based medicine,” she explained.
“During consultation, I always go beyond the skin issue because I believe that the skin is a reflection of an underlying imbalance. We don’t stop at treating the skin; we have to treat the root cause as well. I also don’t prescribe the same treatments. I believe that the skin responds differently, so I provide skin solutions that are unique to each individual.”

Given your celebrity following, what are the popular treatments your patients go for?
It usually depends on their age. We have Rejuve Clear Laser which is the only US FDA-approved laser to remove stretchmarks. It’s really powerful, it can significantly reduce stretchmarks, even the older ones.
It can also remove static wrinkles that have been there for decades. This is our best-selling machine. For 30s and above, I love doing nonsurgical facelift and contouring where patients can go out of the clinic after a couple of hours, and the face looks years younger without surgery and downtime.
I combine treatments which are comparable or more effective than actual surgical facelift.
Teenagers and young adults usually have the Coquille Peel with Alpha Hydroxy Acids that naturally exfoliate the skin, or the Radiance Lift that deeply cleans pores, nourishes, and hydrates the skin. The Acne Cure Laser is also popular, because of its ability to reduce acne inflammation and scars.
Other clients opt for Thermalift, a painless anti-aging procedure that lifts sagging skin, tightens pores and heals acne.
What important skin advice can you give?
I think that in trying to get what you want, regardless of whether you are a designer as big as Alexander McQueen or a hardworking professional like me, nothing comes easy. Everything takes hard work. Likewise, there is no shortcut to achieving perfect skin. You have to watch what you eat, because anything you take in reflects on the skin.
You have to have a good skin regimen, and follow it religiously. Any skin problem must be checked immediately. Don’t rely on creams, instant solutions, or what you read on the Internet. The best is always to consult a professional.
