Of Philippine gold, Hermès scarf and Marie France

The Philippines’ fabulous pre-Hispanic cultural heritage takes the spotlight in New York, as Asia Society will mount the important exhibit, “Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms,” starting next month.

The exhibit, which will run till January next year, will feature over 120 spectacular gold objects dated between the 10th and 13th centuries, on loan from the collections of Ayala Museum and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The rare artifacts reveal a fascinating yet little known aspects of the country’s heritage, particularly the sophisticated pre-colonial civilizations and the thriving maritime trade in the region.

Details about the exhibit were shared to the media and guests by Asia Society Philippines chair Doris Magsaysay Ho, Ayala Corporation’s Fernando Zobel de Ayala and BSP Governor Amando Maglalang Tetangco Jr.

A preview of the exhibit was shown during the briefing. It was curated by Nina Capistrano-Baker of Ayala. Seen viewing it were Bong Consing of Bank of the Philippine Islands, Joselito Campos Jr. of Del Monte Foods Inc., Jaime Bautista of Philippine Airlines and Aileen Averion of ABS-CBN the Filipino Channel.

Joining Zobel de Ayala and Magsaysay Ho as Gala Benefit Committee co-chair was Loida Nicolas Lewis.

“Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms” opens with a grand gala dinner on Sept. 10 at the Asia Society Museum in New York. It will be curated by Adriana Proser, John H. Foster senior curator for traditional Asian art at Asia Society New York.

Exhibit will usher in a Philippine culture festival of sorts, with academic lectures, a film showcase and cultural performances.

Hermès’ virtual house

Welcome to www.lamaisondescarres.com, the whimsical universe of Hermès scarves, La Maison des Carrés.

Step into the interactive world of the French luxury label’s virtual home, dedicated to housing the timeless women’s silk-scarves collection.

Based on the collaborative designs of artist Pierre Marie and creative director Bali Barret, the illustrated website is inspired by the idea of the perfect physical store, a pure white edifice outlined by bold black lines.

One wanders through an array of ever-changing rooms, treasure chambers, salons, color-mixing kitchens, studios—all filled with hundreds upon hundreds of silks, waiting to be discovered and packed into someone’s special orange box.

Hermès Manilas brought this vision to life with an eye-catching cartoon house with a cute yard and a pop-up photo booth at the Greenbelt 5 Gallery. Guests were invited to enter La Maison des Carrés, or “the Hermès house of silks,” to try on different sizes, patterns, and colors of scarves.

Models coached clients on the countless ways to wear a carré and, once the latter had put on their scarves, they were made to pose for magazine-worthy shots in the photo booth.

La Maison des Carrés is a space for aesthetic expression: tangible, rich and infinite as the scarves themselves, and always with a hint of humor.

Over 600 models of silk squares, cashmere shawls, Twillys, bows and stoles are featured.

Whatever the time, city, country or device, computer, tablet or smartphone, it takes just a few minutes to find the perfect scarf.

Marie France at 30

The proven effective noninvasive slimming house turns 30 years old this year, looking back at the countless women it has helped to achieve slimmer, sexier and healthier bodies without pain, strain, hunger or surgery.

The slimming salon opened its doors in the Philippines in 1985, Marie France quickly became the leader of the pack, the first center to introduce the scientific approach to weight-loss. Now 30 years later, it is still recognized for the slogan, “No hunger, no exercise, no injections, no surgery,” embodying its method that has since revolutionized women’s perspective on slimming and wellness.

Supervised by medical doctors, nutritionists, and slimming consultants, Marie France’s weight-loss programs are personalized for each client to guarantee that she attains the body and shape she’s always wanted.

“Marie France first became known for its primary weight-loss treatment, the Fat Mobilization System (FMS), which induces the body to generate heat energy and stimulates the conversion of regular fat to brown fat, making it easier for the body to burn,” said Robin Horsman of Svenson hair care, Marie France and Facial Care Centre. “Now, with the superior technology of FMS Elite, you lose weight without the cold wet wraps and without the shivering. And the treatment session still lasts only 30 minutes with no downtime.”

Marie France and Facial Care Centre are at 16/F, RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center, 25th & 26th Streets, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Marie France also has branches in Alabang, Muntinlupa; Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City; E. Rodriguez, Tomas Morato, Congressional, Quezon City; Binondo, Manila; Cebu and Pampanga. Call 8942639.
