An international community awaits when you apply for scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Victoria University of Wellington is pleased to announce that five undergraduate scholarships are available to students from the ASEAN region for 2016.

The ASEAN Undergraduate Tuition Fees Scholarships provide an opportunity for young ASEAN students with an excellent academic record to pursue undergraduate study at a top New Zealand university.  Victoria is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious universities, and has an established tradition of excellence in research-based teaching across seven faculties: Architecture and Design; Education; Engineering; Humanities and Social Sciences; Law; Science and the Victoria Business School.

One of the 2015 scholarship recipients is Joanna Rubi from The Philippines. Joanna is studying towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science and Engineering Mathematics. Joanna is happy to have met passionate people at Victoria and she particularly enjoys the tutorials, where she gets to put to test what is learnt in lectures with her classmates. Ranked first among New Zealand universities by the New Zealand Government’s ranking of research quality, Victoria’s reputation attracts exceptional staff and students from around the world.  The education model that Victoria offers emphasises creative and critical thought, communication, leadership and heightened world knowledge – a Victoria degree is a world class degree.

Like other successful international students, Joanna has managed to find balance in her life as a student. Despite study keeping her busy, she has made time to enjoy the outdoors and to join a youth group.  Joanna encourages future students to ‘be open!’ to get the most of the experience. She also believes that the cultural diversity at Victoria, and Wellington in general, leads to an exposure to various perspectives and problem solving ideas. Director of Victoria International, Julia Innocente-Jones, says “the bond between Victoria University of Wellington and the ASEAN region has grown over many years and Victoria is proud to once again offer the ASEAN Undergraduate Tuition Fees Scholarships”. Part of the vibrant, dynamic and bustling Wellington community, Victoria takes advantage of its capital city status with unique links to the business, science, creative arts and public sectors.

The ASEAN Undergraduate Tuition Fees scholarship covers the tuition fees for the first year of study for an undergraduate degree beginning in 2016.  Applicants must be under the age of 23 on Dec. 31, 2015 and be a citizen of an ASEAN country to be eligible to apply.  Students can begin their study at Victoria in either Trimester 1 or Trimester 2 of 2016.

Applications are now open and will be accepted until Oct. 31. Further information, eligibility criteria and the application form can be found at: https://www.fis.org.nz/BreakOut/vuw/schols.phtml?detail+500727 or by emailing [email protected].
