At the recent launch of British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer Tesco in SM Aura Supermarket, cutting the ceremonial cake were no less than British Ambassador Asif Ahmad and Tesco senior commercial manager for international retail Luke Elliott.
VIP guests included SM markets vice chair Herbert Sy, SM Supermarkets president Joey Mendoza, SM Hypermarkets president Robert Kwee and SM vice president for business development Pascale Jimenez.
“I am pleased that many of Britain’s favorite Tesco items are finally available for Filipinos to enjoy,” said Ahmad. “In the UK, Tesco is a household name… We would like to congratulate SM for successfully bringing Tesco to the Philippines.”
Tesco products, which include grocery, health and lifestyle items, are now available on the shelves of select SM Supermarkets and Hypermarkets as Tesco’s sole distributors in the Philippines.
Elliott, Tesco senior commercial manager for international retail, believes that SM and Tesco “make a good business match. We share a lot of values… and we’re both enthusiastic to serve customer markets a little better everyday which is something that Tesco is focused on.”
Mendoza, speaking for SM, said: “We’re very proud to exclusively carry great selections of Tesco products as part of our already wide range of offerings. Tesco is a great brand, very useful and affordable. It will surely be loved by Filipinos and we’re happy to be the only store where people can find their Tesco favorites.”
Tesco items available at SM Supermarket Aura, Makati, Megamall A and Megamall B, North Edsa, Southmall, Pampanga and Cebu, as well as SM Hypermarket Mall of Asia, Pasig, Clark and North Edsa.

H&M Studio collection
Meanwhile, the exclusive H&M Studio A/W 2015 preview, held at The Mind Museum, Bonifacio Global City, flaunted sporty futurism and starburst shine as themes.
The galaxy-inspired venue proved perfect, palangga, for the spectacular showcase of style and utility of H&M Studio’s pieces.
The Hero collection for women had effortless layers with snazzy zip up coats, jackets and roll necks done in various styles and fabrics. Lurex sweaters and pants elevated the looks, while popping to life with the use of starburst shine and cosmic prints.
The Primo men’s collection focused on silhouette and fabrics, with textured coats, jackets and knitwear. Inspired by the light of a winter beach, the color palette was dominated by pale blues and grays.
The kids’ collection showcased playful street style in the form of hybrid utility jackets, fun knits and adorable sneaker boots.
H&M Philippines communications manager Dan Mejia said, “We’re very excited to launch H&M Studio’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection after its successful reveal in Paris. It’s been very well received and we can’t wait to make the pieces available to shoppers here.”
Guests got to dress up paper dolls as versions of themselves with pizzazz pieces from the collection. The owner of the night’s best-dressed doll took home the actual outfit.
After a sumptuous sit-down dinner, dance music came in full swing, courtesy of DJs Mars Miranda and Kat Razon.
The H&M Studio A/W 2015 arrived in 200 stores worldwide Sept. 10; in the Philippines it is exclusively available at the H&M flagship store in SM Mega Fashion Hall.
