High five! Here are 5 reasons why we miss the gang from How I Met Your Mother

We can’t believe it’s been more than a year since the polarizing end of legendary series How I Met Your Mother. Considered by many as this generation’s Friends, it became our unofficial guide to navigating dating, relationships, career life and the generally messy and complicated world that is adulthood in everyone’s favorite city, New York.

This Throwback Thursday, we give you five reasons why we can never get over the fictional barkada of Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin and Barney (because listing them all down would be possimpible, as Mr. Stinson would say!):

1. Robin Sparkles

Where else will you find a show that had embarrassingly tacky videos of its character’s popstar alter ego?! Robin Sparkles captured the hearts of the Filipino mall rat in you as she motivated us to put on our jelly bracelets/and our cool graffiti coat/let’s go to the mall today! What, you don’t sport any of these anymore?

2. The crazy theories

There’s The Hot/Crazy Scale, which states that the hotter the girl is, the crazier she must be. The Chain of Screaming, which explains why you shouldn’t really shout at your boss? Or “nothing good ever happens after 2 am”, because it’s the most opportune time for you to make stupid decisions? It’s these brilliant (but sometimes ridonkulous) insights about human nature that made the show the topic of choice in conversations with friends.

3. The music moments

A sitcom gets plus points in our book if it has an awesome soundtrack. Nothing can beat Barney’s Get Psyched Mix, which included classic tito rock hits like Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name and Poison’s Talk Dirty to Me. Other notable music moments include Downtown Train’s cover of Everything But the Girl, if you want to replay how Ted finally met his soulmate and I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers, if you want to annoy the hell out of your friends.

4. Buzz words

If you’re like us, then you’ve probably plucked a word or two from these characters’ lingo. Like Marshall, we see “revertigo” whenever we meet up with old high school and college friends. And we all know that one know-it-all friend who says “lawyered” every chance he/she gets.

5. The Playbook

Major spoiler alert *salute*: Barney realized his womanizing ways must end after holding his daughter for the first time. But we will always remember him for his colorful characters and elaborate schemes to get girls, which are all documented in his playbook. It involved complicated set-ups like “The Lorenzo von Matterhorn”, “Secret NASA” aka SNASA or even something as utterly simple as The Naked Man.
