ART+ Magazine will hold a forum of noted writers, critics and curators discussing the state of art criticism in the country on Oct. 17 at the University of the Philippines’ Vargas Museum.
The forum titled “Critical Platforms: The State of Art Criticism in the Philippines,” will have the following discussants: Patrick Flores of the UP Vargas Museum, Reuben Canete of the UP Asian Center, art critic Cid Reyes, BusinessWorld High Life managing editor Sam Marcelo, 2014 Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Award for Art Criticism awardee Carlomar Daoana, Diskurso.com editor in chief Jojo de Veyra, UP Art Studies professor Tessa Maria Guazon, Lopez Museum curator Ricky Francisco, independent curator Lisa Ito-Tapang, and gallerists Silvana Diaz (of Galleria Duemila) and José Luis Singson (of 1335Mabini).
Topics are: “The State of Art Criticism in the Philippines,” “The Role of Writers and Editors in Art Criticism,” and “How Gallerists and Curators Foster an Environment of Critical Engagement.”
The forum will start at 1 p.m.
“Critical Platforms” is organized by Art+ Magazine with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Art+ Magazine has also released its latest issue (September-October 2015), which features the art of the late Romulo Olazo as its cover story. Along with an homage to Olazo written by his son, Jonathan, the latest issue also includes features on Lyra Garcellano, Raffy Napay, Manix Abrera and Lee Paje.
