EACH artist approaches the sea differently.

Artist Rudolf Gonzalez is unique in that he takes a highly tuned grasp of tropical light and shadow to paint romantic works of the seascape.

His latest works in this genre will be displayed in a new exhibit titled “Romancing the Sea,” running at Galleria Nicolas from Oct. 21 to Nov. 3, with an artist reception on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The mercurial Gonzalez is often considered a master of seascapes and still-lifes. Having a degree in Advertising from the Far Eastern University, Gonzalez is exceptionally empathic in his ability to evoke emotions through his visuals.

“Timeless Rhythm,” for instance, shows how the artist has mastered the complexities of color, light and shadow by depicting waves crashing along a rocky shoreline at sunset. “To the Early Morning Catch,” on the other hand, brings about the artist’s Filipino character, showing how the sea and fisherfolk depend on each other to survive.

Galleria Nicolas is at 3/F, Art Space, Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Makati City. For more information, call 6250273, or e-mail [email protected]
