F. Sionil José Young Writers Award winners to be announced today

WINNERS of the F. Sionil José (FSJ) Young Writers Award will be named today, Oct. 26, 4 p.m., in simple ceremonies at the F. Sionil José Reading Room, Henry Sy Hall, De La Salle University (DLSU) campus, Taft Ave., Manila.

Finalists are “Portrait of A Family” by Joy Icayan, 30, from Cavite; “Day of Mourning” by Rolly Jude M. Ortega, 30, from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; “On Good Days, Like Sundays” by Joshua Carlo Tenorio Pile, 22, from Pampanga; “Tales from the Old Benguet Road” by L. A. Piluden, 21, from Baguio City; and “A Natural History of Empire” by Dominic Paul C. Sy, 23, from Quezon City.

The FSJ Young Writers Award is organized by the Philippine PEN (Poets and Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists) and is endowed by the children of Philippine PEN founder and National Artist F. Sionil José and Teresita Jovellanos José—Tonet José, Evelina José-Cichy, Brigida J. Bergkamp, Eddie José, Eugene José, Alex José and Nikko José—“to honor our father’s legacy to the young writers of the Philippines,” said Cichy.

The awarding is in coordination with the DLSU Bienvenido Santos Creative Writer Center. The public is invited.
