Ramon Magsaysay awardee Ligaya Amilbangsa and Alun Alun Dance Circle will perform at “Ka-loob,” a benefit concert for indigenous children, on Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m., at University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Asian Center’s GT-Toyota Auditorium.
Amilbangsa and her dance group will perform the “pangalay,” a pre-Islamic dance tradition among the Samal, Badjao, Jama Mapun and Tausug peoples.
Jason Verzola, president of Tugma organization in UP Diliman, said the performers and organizers volunteered their services for free, and proceeds would go to the education of the “lumad” children.
Other performers are Triple Fret, an all-female classical-contemporary guitar trio that recently won first prize in a music festival in Japan; Baihana; UP Dance Company and UP Guitar Orchestra.
Mary Kay makeover contest
Mary Kay cosmetics is now accepting entries for the 2015 Dream Beautiful Contest, a makeover competition that features women as models and their Mary Kay beauty consultants.
In the Philippines, 25 semifinalists will be chosen. They will go through a fashion show competition with a question-and-answer portion on
Dec. 12. The top three winners will represent the country in the grand competition in Hong Kong on February 2016 where they will compete with winners from Australia, China, New Zealand.
