Though I have yet to jump on the AlDub bandwagon (I don’t get to watch much TV these days), it’s hard to miss their influence of late, with all the endorsements and social media posts about them from friends and devoted fans.
I applaud the actors and the producers of “Eat Bulaga” for the way they have revolutionized the TV landscape with this kalyeserye, and how they are using the show to promote good causes, as well.
On the fashion and beauty front, Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub, is making a classic makeup look—the red lip—even more popular. Yaya Dub is often seen sporting bold, red lipstick, so when a fan asked makeup artist Krist Bansuelo via Instragram what shade he used, he named MAC’s popular shade Ruby Woo, which then sold out in most stores.
A matte blue-red, MAC’s Ruby Woo is a great red that works on any skintone, but before you hit the panic button because of this lipstick shortage, I can recommend a few favorites that will lend the same effect.
MAC has other fantastic red shades like Russian Red and Viva Glam. I personally prefer NARS Velvet Matte Pencils in Cruella (a wine red) and Dragon Girl (a cherry red).
A more affordable but moisturizing matte formula is Happy Skin x Preview’s Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie in Hot Stuff.
Makeup artist Bobby Carlos also recommends Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Mat 8, Inglot’s Bullet Lipstick #409 and Max Factor’s Colour Elixir Lipstick in Ruby Tuesday.
Like wearing any other makeup look, the key to pulling it off is by sticking to one focal point—keep the rest of the face simple with clean eyebrows and minimal blush, and avoid colored lip liner if possible. After all, makeup looks different in TV and in real-life.
MAC is available at Trinoma Mall, Eastwood Mall and SM Makati; NARS and Max Factor are available at Rustan’s Department Stores; Make Up For Ever is at Greenbelt 5; Inglot is at Megamall Building A; Happy Skin is at Glorietta Mall; and all Beauty Bar Stores.
