DESPITE bad weather, there was a good turnout for the Critical Platforms forum at UP Vargas Museum, organized by Art+ Magazine and supported by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

In the first session, “The State of Art Criticism in the Philippines,” discussants were Patrick D. Flores, curator of the Vargas Museum; art critic Cid Reyes; and Reuben Ramas Cañete of the UP Asian Center. Art+ editor in chief Duffie Hufana Osental moderated.

In “The Role of Editors and Publishers in Art Criticism,” panelists were Sam Marcelo of High Life magazine; Jojo de Veyra of the online magazine Diskurso; and Carlomar Daoana of Philippine Star, with Cid Reyes moderating.

The last session on “How Curators and Gallerists Foster an Environment of Critical Engagement” has Galleria Duemila owner Silvana Ancellotti-Diaz; 1335Mabini gallery manager José Luis Singson; and curators Ricky Francisco and Lisa Ito-Tapang discussing, with Tessa Maria Guazon of the UP Art Studies Department moderating.

Formally opened was Dominic Mangila’s exhibition “I Put a Spell on You Because You’re Mine.”

Art+ Magazine’s September-October 2015 edition features the art of the late Romulo Olazo as its cover story.
