ONLY in Hollywood will you see Katniss Everdeen—played by Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2”—looking unbelievably flawless despite being starved, tortured and oppressed her entire life.
Despite wading through sewage water and fighting off horrifying, flesh-eating monsters, Katniss emerges from the underground tunnels looking fresh, dewy, poreless, effortless—no wonder she was appointed the face of the rebellion! Meanwhile, we mortals walk half a kilometer in 30-degrees-Celsius weather, and we look like the flesh-eating monsters.
If you have plans to watch the intense final installment of “The Hunger Games” franchise, keep an eye out for the scene near the end, when Katniss steps out in full Mockingjay regalia.
Climactic scene
We were torn between focusing on that climactic scene and just staring at her makeup, memorizing each detail so we could recreate it as our new look for the coming holiday parties.
It’s no secret that Jennifer is the face of Dior Beauty. Her makeup artist Jillian Dempsey has been sharing beauty secrets to get the actress ready for her high-profile appearances.
Check out these tips and products on how to achieve Katniss’ flawless look.
Her trademark look includes clean, fresh skin, with just a hint of blush, neutral lips and groomed brows.
Cover your sins, but show some skin.
Heavy foundation, like The Capitol, is a thing of the past. Sheer formulas have been developed to offer buildable coverage while remaining barely there.
Apply foundation only in areas of the skin that need it, like those with redness or discoloration from acne scars.
Try: Diorskin Nude Air Serum, one of the most lightweight, breathable makeup bases we’ve encountered.
Use a Beauty Blender sponge to apply this on your face, and it’ll look like you have nothing on.
Add a touch of sheer color.
Lip and cheek tint is the key to looking healthy and glowing without looking made up. Dot a bit on the apples of the cheeks and blend outwards. For a sheer wash on the lips, make sure to wipe all traces of lip balm before applying lip tint—it adheres better to lips that aren’t coated in waxy product.
Try: Dior Lip and Cheek Glow. The sheer, buildable color one-ups the competition by mixing with your skin’s natural chemistry to create a hue that matches your skin tone.
Bold, dark eye
Beauty goals: As The Mockingjay, Katniss’ look is about strength and power—in her final scene, she rocks a bold, dark eye, healthy color that accentuates and sharpens her cheekbones and a neutral lip that still packs a punch.
Start with the eye makeup; this will let you clean up any dark shadow fallout that can cause your foundation to turn muddy and gray.
Use a gray-brown eye shadow to create smoky wash on lids. Keep the color at its most intense around the lashline and gradually lighten and blend out as you go a little past the crease.
Line eyes with a soft black shadow, and line the outer half of the lower lashline, as well.
Try: Dior 5 Couleurs eye shadow palette in Smoky Design
Intensify the look with a pair of false eyelashes. This actually makes your smoky eye look darker without having to pile on product. Look for a pair that fans out towards the end for a sultrier effect.
Try: Red Cherry lashes in Demi Lashes DS01
High pinks
Swirl blush on the apples of the cheeks and extend it outward to help contour the cheekbones subtly. This will give your face a polished and more grown-up look.
Try: Diorblush in Pink Bow
Statement pout
Katniss and her styling team eschew matte formulas in favor of a glossier and healthier-looking pout. Jennifer Lawrence also happens to be Dior Beauty’s leading lady for its high-shine, high-moisture Dior Addict lipstick.
