Pain-free, no-downtime, longer-lasting fix for dark armpits

Even with already countless supermarket and drugstore products touting underarm whitening solutions, Dr. Z Teo is amazed that half of the inquiries at the Aivee Clinic concern effective and permanent fixes to dark armpits and the bikini area.

This is a skin concern that the Singaporean dermatologist and CEO of the Aivee Group said he never encounters in his clinic in the Lion City.

Teo believes the Aivee Clinic has found the solution in the Crystal Bright Laser Whitening System, a treatment developed in South Korea that whitens darkened skin by using laser to pump nano-molecules of brightening serum deep into the skin.

It’s a pain-free, no-downtime treatment that takes about six minutes per session, and which can be used not just on the armpits and groin, but also on the face, the elbows and other areas patients wish to lighten, said Teo.

At the press presentation, Dr. Boncheol Leo Goo, medical director of the R&D center of the Lutronic Corp., which developed the machine, said he has worked successfully on at least 300 patients using Lasemd, or Laser-assisted Single Effective Molecule Delivery, the technology behind Crystal Bright.

Goo is a dermatologist and a fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Crystal Bright is designed to penetrate deep into the skin since whitening cosmetics simply stay only on the surface. The serums delivered by the laser, he added, are preservative-, chemical- and fragrance-free, and the vitamins in it are of controlled quantities. A patient’s face may need a different formulation from her elbow or knees.

One session takes about six minutes, and five sessions for a full-course treatment is typically needed, performed two weeks apart.

“Since there’s no pain and downtime, save for some tingling sensation experienced by some patients, some of my patients take it like a regular skincare regimen,” Goo said.

He has performed the treatment on pregnant women, and he claimed it’s perfectly safe. He, however, doesn’t recommend it to individuals with conditions like urticarial, psoriasis or bleeding tendencies, just to err on the safe side.

Goo likened the effect to blurring the base, or being Photoshopped, or even painting a wall white. A beauty editor likened it to foundation, since it doesn’t fix spots, wherein one might apply a concealer. Other types of lasers are advised for spots, said Goo. The effect isn’t just whiter skin, but improved texture, like that of a baby’s, or the luminous quality one has after stepping out of the shower, he added.

Crystal Bright costs about P8,000/session for the armpits and P10,000/session for the face. Small price to pay for the confidence of raising your arms in sleeveless clothing.
