It will be the flub which will be remembered forever in beauty pageant history.
On Thursday, “Miss Colombia” finally had been crowned—not as the rightful Miss Universe—but as a recipient of an “honorary award” during the People’s Choice Award in a spoof of the controversial Miss Universe 2015 coronation night.
At a segment of the awards show, “Glee” star Jane Lynch gave out an award to “deserving” comedian Thomas Lennon.
“We’re trying out something new this year. This year’s People’s Choice Award will pick one entertainer who for whatever reason has never won a People’s Choice Award who we believe is deserving of one. And this year, the award goes to Thomas Lennon,” Lynch said.
Lennon accepted the award, even citing his high school principal and mother in the speech, but he was cut short by Lynch.
“I’m sorry. I have to apologize here. First runner-up is Tom Lennon. The winner is Miss Colombia!” said Lynch.
But it was not Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez who emerged on stage but an impersonator—which does not even look like the 22-year-old beauty queen.
Yet the real Miss Colombia caught wind of the parody and even said that it was “awesome,” along with a number of emojis which are laughing out loud. AJH
