Honesty takes over from hypocrisy–thanks to Minnie and Isabel

YOUR mantra for the week: “I now create my life as I desire it to be.”

In a recent appearance on CNN Philippines to talk about karma, I emphasized that it can be both negative and positive, and starts with our thoughts and feelings. A person may not do or say anything negative, but with negative thoughts, that person will manifest a life accordingly.

It is our choice. God created us to create, and the Bible says, “Choose ye today God or mammon.”

The God I believe in is non-judgmental. Whatever we choose has a consequence. May I suggest that in making your choices in 2016, consider the following be-attitudes:

1) Blessed are they that know and understand that God is within them and are made in the image and likeness of that God, for theirs is the kingdom, power and glory forever.

2) Blessed are they that believe they are one with the Source of All Good (God) and cannot be separated from It for they shall be showered with miracles.

3) Blessed are they that have realized they are responsible for all that happens in their lives for they can change everything for the better.

4) Blessed are they that live without complaining and let live without condemning, for they shall have little to complain about and nothing to condemn.

5) Blessed are they that love and approve of themselves without guilt, for they will know how to love and appreciate others without fear.

6) Blessed are they that have become aware of their unlimited potential, for they shall live lives filled with wonder, adventure and discovery.

7) Blessed are they that have found their true purpose in life, for they shall be of service to humanity and create greater good in the universe.

8) Blessed are they that forgive, for they shall receive their hearts’ desires.

Minnie O single again

I recall teasing Minnie Osmeña about her 1960s wedding to Josélito Jacinto—dubbed then as the “wedding of the century” because it was a union between the daughter of one of the country’s wealthiest political clans and the scion of a steel magnate.

But the marriage did not last.

Then she met Dwight Stuart while she was enrolled in Harvard University. This also started her jet-setting lifestyle. At one point, she was asking me to join in her “town and country” sojourn.

When I asked how does one do that, she replied, “All you have to do is to get invited to one of those rich and famous gatherings, which I can do for you, and it opens doors to the rest of the parties that can happen in any fabulous part of the world…”

Today Minnie is single again, visiting her homes in six different countries like a true international socialite.

Isabel Preysler’s charm

In 1967, the Bachelors Club of the Philippines chose Isabel Preysler as one of its Five Prettiest, along with my sister Margarita Sison, Connie Gonzales, Evelyn Camus and Monina Arnaldo. They were chosen based on intelligence, talent, good moral standing in the community, beauty and personality.

In 1971 Isabel married Julio Iglesias; seven years later they divorced in the United States. She went back to modeling in Madrid until she met her future second husband, Carlos Falco, the Marqués de Griñon, whom she also divorced.

She met and married Miguel Boyer, the finance minister of Spain, who died in 2014.

Isabel is described abroad as one “who exudes such low-key elegance and innocent charm” that she can enchant any gentleman of whatever age, including “a jaded writer” like the Nobel Prize winner for Literature Mario Vargas Llosa.

The lifestyles of Minnie Osmeña and Isabel Preysler keep going on parallel lines, that it won’t be surprising if Minnie ends up with a head of state. Isabel has agreed to be involved with a 79-year old Noble Prize winner. On the other hand, knowing Minnie, she will go for someone younger, like, say, the 44-year old Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

I want to underscore that Minnie and Isabel were convent school-bred and brought up with strict Catholic values. But times have changed, like the morals and what is acceptable in today’s cosmopolitan society. I love the change. Finally, honesty has taken over from hypocrisy.  Thank you, Minnie and Isabel.
