To mark the 40th foundation anniversary of the Philippine Horticultural Society Inc., a flower and garden show extravaganza will be held Feb. 4-15 at Hardin ng Mga Bulaklak and Tropical Gardens of Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City.

According to club president Dorie S. Bernabe, the show aims to make the public fully aware that there is money in gardening. Gardening is not only a hobby but also an industry and way of life—a source of food, health and healing, even beauty.

Ornamental gardening is a big dollar earner in countries such as Holland, Thailand, Hawaii, China, Japan, England.

Apart from landscape exhibits and plant competition there will be a floral float parade, flower arrangement show, on-the-spot painting contest, bonsai and fauna show, raffles and daily lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of gardening.

Ribbons, trophies, medals, plaques and cash awards will be given winners. Commercial exhibitors from all over the country have signed up.

Landscape competition is open to 12 members. The individual plant competition is open to any member. Any individual or company, local or foreign, may join the commercial exhibits. The flower arrangement competition is open to only 40 members.

With the success of last year’s floral float parade, 10 big companies will join this year. The parade starts at 7:30 a.m., passing around designated streets in Quezon City. These will be on display at Quezon Memorial Circle for two days.
